ANNOUNCEMENTS: Joseph G. Gleeson has been named an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Dr. Joseph Gleeson, Children's Specialists Neurologist, has been named an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His patient-oriented research is focused on understanding the causes for mental retardation, epilepsy, autism and other brain disorders in children. The position will allow Dr. Gleeson to focus his research project on clinical problems associated with these conditions, in his work at Rady Children's Hospital, and his work with an extensive array of international collaborators.

Children's Specialists Division of Neurology is comprised of board certified child neurologists who diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and neuromuscular system. These may include:
traumatic injuries
disorders of mental and/or motor development
infections of the nervous system
malformation of the nervous system
problems with peripheral nerves
headaches
epilepsy
muscular dystrophy
Neurologists participate on multidisciplinary teams that provide rehabilitative measures to patients with head injuries, spinal defects and neuromuscular disorders.
The Neurology Division is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment including electroencephalography (EEG), computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
